1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar PCGS VF35 CAC
The 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar's inaguaral year featured a scant mintage of 23,464 coins, an astounding 1/10th of the mintage produced the following year. We are pleased to offer this 1794 Flowing Hair Half Dollar, and the quality of this piece cannot be understated. Charming pewter and battleship gray fields interwine with the silvery-gray high points of the design to show off spectacular circulation cameo for an Early Half Dollar. The fields are clean, no nicks, abrasions, or damage are seen and the edges are free of bruising. When was the last time you have seen such surface preservation? Faint adjustment marks are noted for posterity's sake, but they blend very well with the design and are not bothersome. The reverse of this coin carries the same qualities of the obverse, the surface preservation and eye appeal is top notch.
If you look back at the pricing tends of this issue, it hasn't quite exploded like the 1794 dollars, or many of the other early federal issues have. By that virtue, we do believe this is a great opportunity to lock up one of the most appealing examples of this iconic rarity. As the 1794 $1 extends further out of reach for even some of the most well heeled collectors, the next best thing is still modestly priced considering its rarity and the difficulty of finding a wholesome example. It is not priced that much higher than imilarly graded coins on the market, but the quaklity is head and shoulders above. Then take a gander at the CPG value of the issue in XF40 CAC, and note the dramtic jump in price. You'd be hard pressed to find an example graded xf-40 that tops the eye appeal and originality of this fabulous specimen, and perfect looking collector grade coins such as this one tend to get tucked away for a long time before they show up again.
