1831 Capped Bust Quarter Small Letters PCGS AU55 CAC
1831 was the first year of the transition to the small diameter Bust Quarter. The chief engraver of the US Mint at the time, William Kneass, experimented with a Large and Small Letters reverse. Adorned with crusty, original russet and grey toning, this 1831 Small Letters Bust Quarter is fully-detailed, with bold and thick patina and peripheral toning. The Capped Bust Quarter series with CAC approval continues to remain underrated in terms of market value, yet these continue to show up only sporadically and remain hidden away in collections.
