1837 Liberty Seated Dime No Stars PCGS PR64 CAC Ex. Eliasberg
The obverse and reverse are draped in a pleasing smokey gray tone, with hints of red-gold and blue in the periphery that really shines when twirled in the light. The fields still retain reflectivity, and they are wholesomely original. The PCGS population is a scant nine pieces, with only 4 graded higher.
Based on written reports, there were only approximately 30 1837 Proof Dimes struck. They were only given to officials and VIPs, and thus most of them were stored well. This has resulted in most of the Proof examples having deep, original toning. This is a fantastic example of Gobrecht's first year type design, and as a whole we feel that this is an underrated example, considering the rarity of Early Proofs.
