(1842-50) G$1 A. Bechtler "27.G. 21.C." Plain Edge PCGS AU58 CAC
Bechtler gold earned an impeccable reputation for being an honest and reliable medium of exchange, in contrast to other operations that were plagued with rumors of debasement and other troubles. Most Bechtler coinage circulated extensively, and later US mint assays revealed that the coins produced during Augustus Bechtler's tenure often contained more than their face value in gold. Though K-24 is one of the more commonly found issues, it is also one of the most collectible, yet finding coins that haven't been dipped and stripped remains challenging.
This crusty CAC-approved example displays a consistent green-gold color with traces of original dirt in the devices. Considerable luster remains under the patina, this coin has an especially wholesome appearance free of abrasions and distractions. In total between PCGS/NGC there are 157 graded AU58, with only 22 having a green bean.
