1913 Buffalo Nickel Type 1 PCGS PR66 CAC
With the arrival of the Buffalo Nickel in 1913, came Matte Proofs for collectors. With a mintage of 1520, most survivors are between PR64 and PR66. Here we have a wonderfully preserved example of that scant mintage, with lovely dandelion and ocean blue toning throughout the fields contrasted with hints of salmon on the high points of the design. A strong strike and CAC sticker confirm the PQ attributes presented by this piece.
Proof Buffalo Nickels come in all shapes and colors. A more vividly toned PR66 CAC example sold at HA in 2/23 for $8400 while an untoned PR66 CAC example at Stacks sold for $6000 in 8/24. This example with color we feel is priced competitively at $6000, especially with the pleasant pastel color.
